Spelling City This site allows you to type in our weekly spelling words and practice them! Look, Cover, Write This is another great site for spelling word practice Starfall This site is great for students who need extra help with phonics skills. Dibels Interventions Electrified This site has lots of phonics games! Comprehension Into the Book In the "Student Area" of this website, you can help your child create a login which will give him/her access to a variety of reading comprehension activities. The activities connect directly to the comprehension strategies your child is learning in school. Story Map This site allows students to review books they read by creating a story map. Readquarium This site has a lot of great activities to promote reading comprehension. Just click on the different "skills" icons. Vocabulary Word Jungle This is a fun game that gives kids practice defining words. Rags to Riches This is a game to practice antonyms. Walk the Plank This is a game to practice synonyms. Squanky the Tooth Taker This is a game to practice antonyms. Multiple Meaning Game This game gives students practice with homophones and homographs. It also requires using reading comprehension skills. Electronic Books Book Flix The Toledo Public Library provides a this as a free online service. Book Flix has over 100 digital books students can read or listen to. Tumble Books This is another resource the Toledo Public Library provides online. It has many digital books that are read aloud. We Give Books This site has a lot of high-quality digital children's books that students can read on the computer. Plus, for every book they read a book is donated to someone in need! Storyline This site allows children to listen to some of their favorite stories read to them by movie stars! Just Read Books Aloud This site has links to tons of you-tube videos where people read-aloud children's books. Free Children's Books This site has a variety of free ebooks. Misc.- Multiple Skill Review Literactive This is a fantastic free website geared towards early readers (Pre K- 1st). It has electronic books and games to promote early reading skills. Read, Write, Think This will take you to the 2nd grade Student Interactives on this site which give children fun practice with many language arts concepts. You can change the grade level to meet your child's needs if you'd like. JC Schools This site has TONS of games and activities to choose from. This link will take you to the Language Arts page. At the bottom of the page, you can find links to great math, science, and social studies activities as well! Fun Brain This site has great Language Arts and Math games that connect to what we're doing in class and for most of them you can choose the skill level! I Know That This is a wonderful website. You can select the appropriate grade level and it will provide you with a wide selection of games and activities for all the content areas. Internet4Classrooms This website has online games and activities to go with almost the Common Core State Standards. Click on "Grade Level Help" and then choose "Skill Builders." From there you can choose the skill you'd like your child to focus on. There are multiple activities to go with each skill. K-2 Interactives This site has many interactive activities for all content areas and is geared specifically for students in grades K-2. Crickweb This is a site based out of the UK. It has activities for all content areas. Just be aware that some things differ since it is not based out of the United States (spellings of words, etc.). ABC ya! This site has a variety of games students can play to practice different language arts as well as math skills. The games are organized by grade level. PBS Kids- Reading Games You'll find a variety of games here that give practice with skills needed for beginning reading. |

iSpy Phonics- $1.99 This app allows children to match phonic sounds with letters, through illustrations, pictures, and accurate pronunciation while playing the game of I Spy. Word Magic- .99 Word Magic a basic spelling app. For each word, the game presents a picture illustrating the word and the missing letter or letters has to be guessed. Word Wizard - $4.99 This app has the ability to turn whatever words kids create — even words that do not exist — into spoken words. Word Wagon-$4.99 Kids learn about letters, phonics, and spelling with Word Wagon. The app can be set to one of four progressively harder levels. Dr. Seuss's ABC- $3.99 This app has three levels, "Read to Me," "Read it Myself," and "Auto Play," which allows children to grow with this app. Into the Letters- $4.99 This helps children read and write letters A-Z in both capital and lowercase forms with flashcards. Soundcards let your child record and listen to themselves as they practice saying each letter. Starfall's ABC- $2.99 This app displays each letter in upper and lowercase and then shows how the letters are used in sentences. Children can also play letter games, such as word mazes. Tap N Learn- Learn to Spell- Free There are three different modes that allow children to listen and learn words, match-up letter blocks to form the name of the item featured, and finally drag blocks to form words without any prompts. Ace Learn to BEE Sight Words- $3.99 This is a great app to practice spelling. It has many customizable features to change the difficulty level and skills being practiced. Alphabet Car- $2.99 Find the right letters to a given word by using your mobile device like a steering wheel and have your child learn how to spell in a fun and engaging way. My Word Wall- $1.99 This app has a wide variety of ways for students to practice identifying sounds and spelling high frequency words and words with common patterns. ABC Alphabet Phonics, Lite- free This is a simple app that gives students practice identifying letters of the alphabet. Reading Raven- $3.99 This site is great for beginning readers. You can customize the skills worked on to fit students' needs. Each level has a variety of games to help students practice their letters and sounds. Phonics Tic Tac Toe- free This app is great for 2nd and 3rd graders. It reviews many phonics concepts as students play tic tac toe. ABCya! Alphabetical Order- free This is a great app for Kindergarteners and 1st graders. It not only gives them practice with alphabetical order, but matching capital letters to lowercase as well as letters to sounds. Comprehension Aesop's Quest- .99 This app works on comprehension skills as students must recall elements of a story to complete the levels. MiniMod Reading for Details Lite- $3.99 This app helps students practice identifying the 5W's of reading — who, what, where, when, and why. Question Builder- $5.99 This gives students practice answering inferential questions. Speech With Milo- Sequencing- $2.99 This s a sequencing and storytelling game. Slide the three picture cards into correct order (first, next, and last), then watch the story come to life. Kids Reading Comprehension Level 1- .99 This app gives comprehension practice as students read passages and answer questions about them. Kids Reading Comprehension Level 2- .99 This is a version of the app above designed for more advanced readers. Vocabulary Opposite Ocean- Free This app helps students practice identifying antonyms. Same Meaning Magic- .99 This app helps students practice identifying synonyms. Same Sound- Spellbound- .99 This helps students understand homophones. Bitsboard- Free This is the most extensive free app I've seen. With this app, you can choose from thousands of flashcards and play different games with them. You can even create your own flashcards with pictures. This is a fantastic app to help English-Language Learners acquire new vocabulary. Most of the flashcards are of objects, but there are letters and words as well. Electronic Books eReadingToGo!- free Students can read electronic books that progress in difficulty. Although this app is free to download, there is a cost for each book downloaded. Wild Fables- .99 Students can read interactive versions of different Aesop's fables. Meegenius- free This app comes with several interactive books students can listen to as well as additional books you can purchase. Storybots- free Students can add themselves to these interactive books! One comes free with the app and additional titles can be purchased. A Story B4 Bed- free This app allows you to record audio and video on a book. Tales2Go- free This app streams on-demand, unlimited access to more than 1,000 stories. Scroll through and sort by reader age, genre, and more. Although the app is free to download, a $10/month subscription is required to view the books. Reading Rainbow- free This is one of my favorite apps for reading. Students get one book for free. With a subscription (($10/month or $30/6-month) they get access to an unlimited amount of books. These are very high-quality books and there are games to go with the books. Students can choose to read the books on their own or have the computer read it. MeMe Tales- free When you register, students get 20 free ebooks! There is also a new ebook each Monday that students can view for that week. Additional books can be purchased. ICDL (International Children's Digital Library)- free This app has many ebooks children can read. I recommend sticking to the 3-5 category though as many of the books are more difficult than they are marked as. You also need to specify the language. Booksy- free With this app, students can record themselves reading the ebooks or have the books read to them. It comes with 2 free books. Additional books must be purchased. I Like Books- $1.99 This app comes with 37 children's books. These books have real photographs and simple text that students can even record themselves reading! Misc Toontastic- Free This is a student-favorite. They can move characters around and record their voices to create stories. Educreations Whiteboard- Free This is a nice app for students to use to practice writing. It would give them another venue for practicing writing spelling words. |
